VOICE FOR THE HORSE — YOUTH WRITING LEGACY

A Return to the Heart of Our Mission

From 2012 to 2014, Voice for the Horse ran three remarkable international children’s writing competitions that revealed something unforgettable: when given a chance, young people write with courage, empathy, and a deep understanding of horses. Those stories became the heart of our legacy. After many years of pause, healing, and rebuilding, we are now stepping forward again — ready to relaunch this beloved program and invite the next generation into the circle.

Our past youth authors created extraordinary work:

Wild Horse Stories, War Horse Stories, and soon, Rescue Horse Stories — each e-book a testament to how deeply young people understand the spirit, courage, and emotional intelligence of horses. These collections remain at the centre of our mission: to give youth a place where their voices matter, where creativity becomes confidence, and where horses inspire hope.

As we prepare to relaunch our annual writing competitions, we are shaping a program built on encouragement, literacy, legacy, and the healing bond between young people and horses. Each year will bring new themes, new e-books, and new opportunities for emerging authors to shine — creating a living library of youth creativity that grows with every generation.

This is more than a contest.

It is a legacy — built by children, inspired by horses, and carried forward with love.

Because children know the truth.

When young people write about horses, they write from the heart — without hesitation, without performance, and without losing sight of what matters. Their stories remind us of empathy, courage, justice, and connection to the natural world.

Because literacy builds confidence.
Every story written by a child is an act of bravery. A blank page becomes a place where young writers discover their voice, stretch their imagination, and learn that their words have power.

Because creativity saves lives.
For many children, writing is more than an activity — it’s a safe place to process emotions, explore identity, and find healing through expression. Horses, with their honesty and emotional presence, make that space even stronger.

Because the world needs young storytellers.
Our goal is to help raise a generation of compassionate leaders, artists, advocates, and horse lovers — young people who understand that kindness is courage, and story is medicine.

Because horses deserve champions.
Through these writing competitions, youth learn to honour horses: the wild ones, the war horses, the rescued, the forgotten, and the beloved. Their stories become tributes that help protect the future of horses everywhere.

This program is part of our legacy — and part of theirs.

 As we rebuild Voice for the Horse and prepare to relaunch our annual youth writing competitions, we are opening the door for those who feel called to be part of this legacy. This work has always been heart-led, and now we are seeking caring individuals who want to help shape its future — volunteers, visionaries, board members, and published authors willing to join our growing Stable of Judges.  The “Voice of Truth” song is the future heart of our youth programming — a legacy piece designed to unite children’s stories, music, and the spirit of the horse into one powerful message of hope. Although it is not yet recorded, the song represents the next chapter of Voice for the Horse’s mission. It will become the soundtrack for our future children’s writing competitions, youth e-books, and storytelling initiatives. As we rebuild and gather the right creative partners, producers, and supporters, “Voice of Truth” remains a guiding star — a project that will come to life when the time, resources, and team are aligned. For now, it stands as an inspiring vision of what we are becoming, and an open invitation to those who feel called to help bring this legacy to the world.
